Mount Pleasant, PA

400 mile drive from Poughkeepsie today. The forecast was for rain but the skies were clear for the first 300 miles. Then came some very heavy rains while I rolled through the mountains @80mph. It rained so hard that many motorists pulled off. There were tons of trucks spraying water all around them, which hardly made a difference. Water pooled a lot in the passing lane. I slowed to 60 and zipped through it all, up and down steep mountain grades, sloshing through the pools, braking sometimes. The A3 didn't flinch once, just the slightest hydroplaning once in a while, not a bit of skid. Rock steady thanks to the sports suspension.

Checked in to the Holiday Inn Express (79$!!) which is the best one I've been to, as good a motel as any on the planet. Tomorrow I'll drive southeast about 30 minutes to Fallingwater. Thursday a bit further to see another Frank Lloyd Wright place - Kentuck Knob. There's yet a third, Duncan House, which just opened to the public on July 15th.

I asked at the Holiday Inn Express desk where to eat and they sent me to Leo's Pub & Grille, well off the beaten path. @6:30pm on a Tuesday. Insanely low prices. $2.75 for a draft pint of Penn Pilsner. $11.75 for salisbury steak with mushroom gravy accompanied by soup, salad, and garlic mashed.

Looking east from Route 819 at farmland rolling into the Allegenies, overcast and twilight in that direction. I'll take more photos tomorrow to do justice to this striking view.

Suzy's Custard Stand. I parked there to take the picture of the landscape. Then I had a custard. Then I took a couple of photos of Suzy's. Rookie mistake with the flash

"Just the slightest of hydroplaning..."

Any amount of hydroplaning is enough to keep me off the road. Glad you (and the A3) are still in one piece!
